John Pho is the Academic Services Coordinator for the Master’s Programs Office! Learn more about John’s role and how he assists MBA students in course enrolment and timetabling.
Q: What was your background prior to joining the Master’s Programs Office team?
John Pho (JP): I am a Bachelor of Commerce graduate and have worked in several different organizations ranging from small construction companies such as Sherwin Williams, to the public sector including the Government of Alberta and University of Alberta.
Q: What attracted you to your current role/drew you to working in an academic environment?
JP: I was excited to take on a customer service opportunity that would allow me to engage with clients (in this case students!) and help with other duties behind the scenes.
Q: What does your MBA Academic Services Coordinator role entail?
JP: I am here to provide exceptional service to MBA students regarding course enrolment and timetabling through their entire program.
Q: As a new member of the team, what is your initial impression of the culture of the Master’s Program Office?
JP: My first impression was the office is a very passionate and driven team that is always looking for ways to improve the program and help students thrive during their time here.
Q: What do you look forward to the most in terms of working with MBA students?
JP: I look forward to helping MBA students make their course registration process as stress free as possible!
Q: What has been the most important innovation you’ve witnessed in your lifetime?
JP: Smartphones! What would you do without them? It connects us with family, friends, and now it’s a vital part of our work life on the go.
Q: What are three things still left on your bucket list?
- I would love to meet Ryan Reynolds!
- Visit more places in the world
- Start a family

JP: Most important meal of the day and I skip it!
