Europe Study Tour 2016- Day 13

Saturday May 14

Today was our last official full day for the Study Tour!  Luckily enough, it was a free day.  We split into a bunch of different little groups, with most people heading off to Amsterdam.  Our little blog group split up – Hazel was off to Amsterdam, Haowei went to Den Haag, and Sandra stayed and explored Rotterdam

In Amsterdam, there are so many cultural sights, museums, and of course beautiful canals.  A small group of us headed out and arrived at around 11AM, stopped for some beers and food, and posed by the IAmsterdam sign outside the Rijksmuseum before hitting up a couple fun places to wrap up our trip.

We began at The House of Bols is an interactive museum featuring Bols cocktails. I like to describe it as like a mini-Willy Wonka factory for adults. We were given headsets to hear the timeline of the business, did sensory tests to see how smell and sight affect our taste, smelled all the different liqueurs and then were given a professionally made cocktail of our choosing at the big flair bar.

Immediately following Bols, our group did a combined Heineken factory, canal tour. We toured the canals via closed boat and listened to an audioguide story through headsets, which was offered in many different languages. At Heineken, we went through the history of the brand and the process of making Heineken, finishing the tour off with a tasting.

Our small group had a couple of friends who were in Amsterdam at the same time – two from Belgium and one from Edmonton. We all ended up heading out to dinner and had an overall great last night of the study tour.
